About the Department

Since its establishment in 2001, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Govt. College of Engineering Kannur has been actively functioning as one of the prestigious institutions in North Kerala. Currently, the Department offers undergraduate (UG) and PhD programs. Initially, the UG program had an AICTE sanctioned intake of 30 students, but this was increased to 60 students in 2011.

The UG program offered by the Department is B. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, which is currently affiliated with A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). This is a four-year program comprising eight semesters. While the first and second semesters have common syllabi for all branches, from the third to the eighth semester, the syllabi cover various areas of Computer Science & Engineering, including Computer Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, etc. The evaluation for each course is based on Continuous Assessment (CA) and end-semester University Examinations (ESE). At present, the Department runs four batches of the UG program each year. Additionally, the Department is recognized as an approved research center by KTU (A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University).

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering takes pride in having highly qualified faculty and technical staff. The sanctioned faculty and technical staff positions are 12 and 9, respectively. The faculty composition includes one Professor, two Associate Professors, and nine Assistant Professors. The technical staff composition comprises of two Computer Programmers, three Trade Instructors and four Tradesmen

As a government institution, we attract a top-tier group of students, and our B.Tech examination results are consistently outstanding. The Department has a successful track record of placing students through campus placements, and several students have also been selected for higher studies in renowned institutions. Our students actively participate in both extra and co-curricular activities, bringing numerous accolades and honors to the Department.

Moreover, the Department takes pride in its cutting-edge laboratory facilities, including a Central Computing Lab situated in the Main Block of the College, along with six specialized labs in the Department Lab Block. The Department possesses a well-supplied library housing more than 2000 books covering various topics in the field of Computer Science.
